PANELIST - Dr. Rena Carlson, President, AVMA

Dr Carlson is a graduate of Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  After graduation, Dr. Carlson’s career has spanned more than 30 years including clinical work, practice ownership, university attending veterinarian, university accreditation, and academic research. She co-owned Alpine Animal Hospital, a mixed-animal practice, for 25 years. She and her partner grew the practice from two to six doctors, and designed and built a new facility in 2009.

PANELIST - Dr. Peter Weinstein, President, PAW Consulting, Inc.

Owner of PAW Consulting and is the former executive director of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association, and the former chair of the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Veterinary Economics Strategy Committee. He teaches a business and finance course at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Thompson, practice owner of, Country Hills Pet Hospital in Eden, Wisconsin, which was the AAHA-Accredited Practice of the Year in 2018.   

He joined the AAHA Board of Directors in 2019, and president in 2024. While he’s been an AAHA advocate all the way back to his vet school days, Thompson’s time on the board has deepened his appreciation for all that AAHA can do.

Matthew Salois, PhD is currently the President of the Veterinary Study Groups, Inc. (VSG), where he is responsible for enhancing the economic and cultural success of more than 1,800 veterinary member practices. 

Most recently, Matt was the chief economist and head of the veterinary economics division at the AVMA between 2018 and 2022, where he applied his skills in economics, business, and communication to support the daily lives of veterinarians.
